Learning The Lingo Of Texas Hold'em Poker-more Poker Terms
By http://www.mysportsbookonline.info/

Here are a number of common terms you will hear when playing Texas hold'em poker:

Bad Beat. When the odds to win are in your favor and yet your hand ends up getting beaten, that is what is known as a “bad beat”.

Big Slick. Having an Ace and a King as your two pocket cards.

Big Chick. Probably a piece of wordplay based on “Big Slick.” It means you have an Ace and a Queen as your pocket cards.

Check-raise. When you check on your turn to bet, drawing a bet from another player, and then raise on that player’s bet, that is what is known as a “check-raise.”

Flush Draw. Having four out of the five cards you need to complete a flush.

Inside Straight Draw. Having four out of the five cards you need to complete a straight, the needed card being somewhere in the middle of the card sequence. An inside straight draw is also known by the terms “gut shot” and “belly buster.”

Kicker. A tie-breaking card that is used to complete such hands as two pair, three of a kind, and four of a kind. Five-card hands do not make use of a kicker.

Limp. When you call the minimum bet to play in a hand, that is known as “limping into the hand.”

Muck. To fold your hand without showing your cards.

Nuts. When you have the unbeatable hand at the table, you are said to be holding the “nuts”

or the “nut hand.” The player holding the nut hand can change as the cards on the board (the community cards) are added to by the dealer.

Outs. Your “outs” refers to the number of cards left in the deck that you can use to make a winning hand. There are usually several outs available to you at any one time.

Pocket Rockets. Having two Aces as your pocket cards.

Slow-play. When you underplay a strong hand with the strategy of getting an opposing player to bet more against you and increase the size of the pot, which you intend to take.

Suited connectors. When you have two cards of the same suit that are next to another in rank, then you are said to have “suited connectors.”

Tilt. Going on “tilt’ refers to continuing to play while obviously upset, something that will usually have a negative impact on your game.
