Tournament Poker Professional Player Profile - Chris Ferguson
By http://www.mysportsbookonline.info/

Chris Ferguson earned the nickname 'Jesus' due to his long hair and beard. An academic by profession Ferguson came to the public’s attention by winning the World Series of Poker main event in the year 2000. His poker playing started much earlier than this, a gamer since the age of 10 where academic parents got him thinking about the strategy and game-theory concepts involved in poker.

Despite holding a PhD in computer science, Chris ‘Jesus’ Ferguson is now a poker professional and a formidable opponent – with a string of successes in prestigious poker tournaments.

His win in the 2000 World Series Main event, where he beat poker legend T J Cloutier heads-up is one of a total of 5 WSOP bracelets. Here is the full list of Chris Ferguson’s WSOP wins:

- 2000 $2.5k 7-Card Stud - $151,000

- 2000 $10k No-Limit Holdem Main Event - $1,500,000

- 2001 $1.5k Omaha Hi-Lo - $164,735

- 2003 $2k Omaha Hi-Lo - $123,680

- 2003 $2k Mixed Holdem / Stud - $66,220

Chris Ferguson has also finished 2nd twice in the NBC National Heads-Up Poker Championship. In 2005 he was beaten by 11 time bracelet winner Phil Hellmuth and the very next year finishing runner up to poker tournament professional Ted Forrest.

In addition Ferguson has a string of poker tournament successes around the

world, including taking part in the ‘biggest ever buy-in event’ in London in 2006 where participants paid $100,000 to join.

At the tables Chris Ferguson combines an analytical approach to the game, involving advanced poker mathematics and game-theory concepts, with a quiet ‘motionless’ appearance which makes him difficult to read as strong or weak.

With the exception of his WSOP wins it is online poker that Chris Ferguson is best known for. He is a ‘Full Tilt Poker Pro’ and plays online at that site. He has also completed 2 internet poker ‘challenges’. The first was to turn $1 into $20,000 over a 6 month period online by starting at the lowest limits and grinding his way up. The second was to start with zero! In this challenge Ferguson played freeroll tournaments to start a bankroll and then turned this money into $10,000 playing real-money games.

In addition to poker Chris Ferguson has some unusual pastimes and skills. He is a keen swing dancer and heads up a club for this at UCLA. He is also able to throw a playing card quickly and accurately enough to cut a carrot in half from 3 meters away!
